Critical junction
The next parties of the parties appear at a crucial time for PKR, a multi-racial party dominated by the ethnic Malays.
While the party benefits from a central position in national policy and its leaders occupy key positions in the cabinet, such as financial portfolios and the house, the perch of PKR is Seen being wobbly, mainly due to Malaysia deeply fractured political landscape.
The general elections in November 2022 did not succeed in producing a pure and simple winner and Anwar assumed only the Prime Minister only after his Coalition of PH led by PKR formed a government of unity with the Barisan Nasional Pact led by the National Organization of Malays (UMNO).
PKR, which has 31 representatives elected in Parliament, relies strongly on its chief ally at the PH, the Democratic Action Party (DAP), which has 40 members of the Parliament in the lower chamber of 222 members.
Public support for PKR is also considered by political analysts be hollow.
PKR officials claim that it has just over a million registered members, but political analysts noted that the party has no national footprint and has trouble attracting the support of the country's politically divided Malays, which represent more than 60% of the population.
Its main supporters come mainly from multi-racial urban and semi-urban communities.
“PKR's big problem is that he has not used his holder as a main player in the government to build a power base that will make it a sustainable political institution,” said Ibrahim sufficiently of independent Merdeka Center survey, adding that the next partner survey “offers a chance to create a new leadership that can focus on the party.”
Are you lacking in clear ideology?
The main weakness distressing the party is that it is devoid of a clear ideology, in addition to being against corruption, the abuse of power in government and cronyism.
This is different from other established parties such as Umno, which defends the rights of the ethnic malaise community, and the DAP, which has long fought for equal rights for all Malaysians.
Created in 1998 as a nasal Keadilan party, PKR was the product of political benefits between former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar, who at the time was Vice-Prime Minister.
The two men clashed on how to manage the country's economic crisis during Asia's financial disorders that started in the summer of 1997 and this led to a government dismissal of the government and to the subsequent condemnation and imprisonment for corruption and sexual misconduct.
The audience of the public concerning the treatment by Mahathir of his former successor, in particular the violent beats of Anwar when he was in detention by the then police chief, triggered part of the country Worse public events and street events. He also brought together politicians aligned with Anwar, non -governmental organizations and social activists to train PKR.
