Volunteer tutors deplore the "shameful" cuts from Doge to Americanorps

To the publisher: I am one of the people affected by the shameful cuts of President Trump in Americanorps (“California, other states are continuing the Trump administration to block cuts to Americanorps”, “ April 29). I am a retired practitioner nurse, and this semester, I began to tutrify two young students from the school district of the city of Pasadena in reading as a volunteer with Reading Partners, who obtains funding from American. On April 27, I received a message from the Executive Director of Reading Partners informing us that the non -profit American Program was “paused”.

I made good progress with my guardianships, a first year of 6 years and a second 7 -year -old student. And all the members of Americans with whom I worked are a devoted and committed professional who is passionate about their mission.

But in Trump's America, God forbids us that we teach our young people to be better readers when we have to bring together enough money for another massive tax reduction for the billionaires of the president. I mean, let's keep our straight priorities.

To the publisher: I was tutor with the American Partners Reading program before receiving the opinion that our funding had been reduced. What is particularly painful is that there are only three weeks left to go this semester, so the children we are tuning will not even know why we do not come to see them. We all hope that the government overturns its decision so that we can end the year with our students and continue next year when we help educate our children.
