A national ceremony in the Netherlands marking 80 years after the release of the Nazi occupation was briefly disrupted on Monday by pro-Palestinian demonstrators.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans, a speech at Wageningen when several demonstrators cried out “free Palestine” before being removed from the police.
Five people were detained and some parts of the crowd responded with hoots.
Despite the disruption, Brekelmans continued, joined by Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who then called European unity.
In a separate incident, a smoke cartridge was thrown on a scene from the festival, although no arrest was made.
The ceremony took place near the site where German forces went in 1945, officially ending the occupation.
