Volunteers in Russia have patrolled on a road just outside Saint Petersburg in search of frogs and toads heading towards asphalt to their frai sites in a neighboring body of water, picking them up and transporting them on the grass, where they would not be hit by cars.
There are generally not much on this special section of the road in the SESSSTRORTSK BOG nature reserve, but relatively slow traffic has always killed up to 1,000 toads, said the Saint Petersburg Zoological Institute.
Volunteers help transport toads and frogs on the road since 2016.
Depending on weather conditions, this work begins in mid-April and continues for a month or two, with more than 700 volunteers participating each year.
