The Lucombe Oak, planted in 1762, now lives as Oak – An LED installation six meters high which has a 3D model of the tree structure through the seasons in a 12 -minute loop.
The display reacts to the movement of visitors, with gusts of pixels animating its surface.
Created by collective artist Marshmallow Laser Feast, the work is based on advanced technologies, including Lidar and radar penetrating on the ground, used in collaboration with Kew scientists.
The installation is located near the place where the oak has grown and will be exhibited from May 2 to September 28.
