Easter is the most important party in the Orthodox calendar and the largest celebration of Christian Orthodox Bulgarians.
In the monastery kitchen, 5,050 eggs are dyed in red, a color symbolizing the blood of Christ. Given by local producers, eggs will be given to pilgrims on Easter Sunday.
On Holy Thursday, the families of Bulgaria also dyed eggs. The oldest woman traditionally colors the first egg and pulls a cross on the forehead of the youngest child to wish them health. Once blessed in the church, eggs are used in playful competitions at home, with the egg without cramp which will bring a year of good fortune.
