The Los Angeles police department told Times that he had no information on the destruction of trees, and an email and a telephone call for the city's urban forest division remained unanswered on Sunday.
Social media images have shown a number of trees that have been cut at the base, while others were cut several feet above the road. Some of the slaughtered trees were always connected to their trunks by only a bark or wood wire.
