A Florida shooter who is the son of a local assistant sheriff used his mother's former service weapon to kill two and injure six during a shooting on the Florida State University campus, according to the authorities.
The 20 -year -old man, identified by police as being Phoenix Ikner, opened fire outside the student union building.
The police quickly arrived and shot and injured Ikner after refusing to comply with orders, said Tallahassee police chief Lawrence Revell.
The authorities have not yet revealed the shooting of the shooting, which started at noon on Thursday, sending students and frightened parents hiding in a bowling alley and an elevator of goods inside the building.
The two men who were killed were not students, said Florida State University police chief Jason Trombower, adding that he would not disclose additional information on the victims.
The shooter obtained access to a weapon that belonged to his mother, who has worked in the Sheriff office for over 18 years.
According to reports, she had kept the weapon for personal use after upgrading the force towards new firearms.
The University has canceled all classes and Florida State has suspended all sports events at home.
