To the editor: This reader found the comments of the contributor Josh Hammer on President Trump's warnings against Japan and now China (“Trump's last trade war with China is cruelly necessary“April 10) Dandinginuous and not the reflection of world trade. It is necessary to develop a viable financial commercial strategy with each country, instead of a single rate that has no meaning, especially with countries that depend on our products.
The failures of Trump's characters and his shameless actions to put himself first before the nation's needs raise questions about its global tariff objectives. Hammer neglected to remind readers that during Trump's first term, The Chinese brand office granted 18 brands to his own and his daughter Ivanka.
Hammer also didn't mention why Trump The largest donor in the 2024 electoral cycleElon Musk, had installed a Tesla vehicle manufacturing plant in China or why Apple manufactures most of its iPhones in China. Without China’s ability to make Tesla electric vehicles from Musk and Apple iPhones at a low price and in quantities and in quality to meet market demand, the two manufacturers would have chosen to make their products in the United States.

To the editor: I admit that Hammer's chronicle illustrates that Trump has, for years, on the right side on trade policies of China and has justified his requests for high prices on Chinese exports. He notes correctly (in my opinion) the elite “acted in a myopic and ruinous manner” with regard to trade with China.
But it implodes when he suggests that the Chinese Communist Party “must be crushed … by the class of class par excellence Donald Trump”. First, the word “communist” has long lost all resemblance to something other than an oligarchy and means roughly the same thing as Maga.
China has a functional oligarchy (mainly) stable for 47 years, while the United States has had a functional democracy (mainly) stable for almost 250 years. Trump tries to create an oligarchy via chaos that no grass oligarch could have established in modern times. Trump is much more likely to be crushed.
