Washington President (Reuters) Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States was in a “transition period” and were going to do “fantastic” while minimizing the impact that any short-term recession could have.
When asked during an interview with NBC News if it would be OK to have a short -term recession, Trump said: “Listen, yes, it's – everything is fine. What we are – I said is a transition period. I think we are going to do fantastically.”
Trump's commentary on the American economy during transition periods echoed the comments he made earlier Friday in a social media position, in which he also quoted solid job and reiterated his call to the American federal reserve to reduce interest rates.
“We are only a transitional stage, I'm just starting to start!” He said in a social article of truth. The position followed the publication of American data that showed that employment growth had slowly slowed down for April.
Trump, who has just spent his 100th day in power, had to face a growing dissatisfaction with the public on his management of the economy, many economists predicting a wide range of prices imposed in recent months will increase inflation and slow growth.
A Reuters / Ipsos survey completed on Sunday showed that 42% of respondents approved Trump's performance in office, a decrease of five percentage points compared to its inauguration of January 20.
On Wednesday, the US trade department published the data from gross domestic product in advance which highlighted the first quarterly decline in three years, businesses rushing to import a flood of goods before Trump's prices. However, some economists cite robust consumption spending and private investments, as signs growth could soon bounce back.
