Trump's White House apparently found a bypass solution on Tuesday at its court order to restore access to oval offices to the Associated Press: Wire News Services will no longer be guaranteed a place in the press basin, according to several media reports.
The new pool makeup, according to Michael M. Grynbaum of the New York Timeswill develop to allow access to two printed journalists (or “printed piles”); a network team like ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox and NBC; a secondary network or streamer; a radio station; A new media and four photographers.
“The composition of the swimming pool reflects much more the media habits of the American people in 2025,” said a senior White House official in New York Announces the news for the first time. “The White House press policy continues to be based on all justice for all points of sale wishing to cover the White House.”
For decades, the White House granted access with a wire for three points of sale inherited AP, Bloomberg and Reuters. These outlets had access to all presidential events in smaller sites such as the Oval Office, while other points of sale which are part of the rotating rotation of the “printed” press pool could only participate once a month.
Automatic access by the three wires had already been reduced for more than a month – with limited access to one rotary point per day – with the exclusion of the AP.
This President's decision comes a week after the AP victory in a trial on his exclusion from the press basin. DC's American district judge, Trevor McFadden, ruled that the AP was restored in the press pool after refusing to comply with the change of name of the President of the Gulf of Mexico.
McFadden's decision said the AP “cannot be treated worse than its peer cable services”, giving the Trump administration work to continue to exclude the exit of conversations at the door behind closed doors.
There are currently 31 press points “printed” in rotation, 34, including wire services. From now on, two additional printed seats have been added, considerably decreasing access to the publication of the wire service. Fire service publications like AP, Reuters and Bloomberg provide news to small newspapers, radio and television stations across the country. Their efficiency allows a wider audience to be aware of the conversations that take place in the oval office and that consumers directly hear the president.
The Trump administration was persistent in the inclusion of new media in information sessions and the dismantling of the traditional hierarchical system of press pool. The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, organizes press information sessions once, sometimes twice a week, unlike Trump's first mandate.
While the inherited media line the first row of the press briefing room, the Trump administration has added a new seat for the “new media”. Journalists, influencers and podcasters who have filled this range of seats by Axios and Semaor journalists to partisan influencers and YouTube stars.
