The Ghost Government of Myanmar said that an air strike from the power junta killed at least 17 students and injured 20 others in a school in an area controlled by the opposition on Monday, May 12, despite a ceasefire being in place After a devastating earthquake.
The school, which is exploited by the government of the national unity of the shadows, is in the central city of Myanmar de Depayin in the Sagaing region, about 160 km north of Mandalay and not far from the epicenter of the earthquake of March 28.
“According to the information we have so far, 17 students have been killed and 20 injured,” said NUG spokesperson, the LATT phone.
“Some may have failed due to damage caused by the bomb, so the number of deaths could be higher.”
Myanmar has been seized by the conflict since the army used the deadly force to suppress demonstrations against its return to power during a coup in 2021. The army has trouble governing and lost ground in its battle to stem a rebellion by armies of ethnic minorities and a movement of resistance affiliated to NUG.
A spokesperson for the Junta refused to comment when he was contacted by Reuters.
Last week, the Junta said it extended a ceasefire after the earthquake until May 31.
Military air strikes and artillery attacks continued In some parts of Myanmar despite the announcement of the ceasefire. The NUG includes the remains of the elected administration deposited by the military in the coup and other anti-Junta groups.
