The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) said that “historic” decisions had been made at its long -term expected congress that was held earlier this week in northern Iraq, although the group did not confirm if it intended to disarm or disarm itself as part of a new peace initiative with Turkey.

According to a press release made by the Firat news agency, which is closely affiliated with the prohibited group, the congress took place in two sites in northern Iraq, Suleymaniyah and Duhok, between Monday and Wednesday.

The group said that more details on the resolutions would be shared with the public shortly.

In February, the founder of PKK and imprisoned leader, Abdullah Öcalan, called on the group to convene a congress to dissolve and lay down their arms to end the conflict of several decades with Turkey.

Since the 1980s, the insurrection has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths.

The PKK, appointed a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, the European Union and other Western nations, said a cease-fire shortly after the call of Öcalan.

However, he stipulated that certain conditions must be met before any disarmament, in particular by establishing a legal framework for peace negotiations.

Öcalan's messages highlighting his “perspectives and proposals” were read during the Congress, Firat News reported.

The Turkish diffuser Hobertürk also confirmed the locations of the Congress, both bastions known to the management of the PKK.

On Friday, the pro-Kurdish party of Turkey, which is involved in the current peace initiative, said on Friday that an official declaration of the PKK could be imminent.

“We too are waiting for this historic stage, this historic decision,” said party spokesman Aysegül Doğan.

The last opening of peace was launched in October by the Turkish far -right politician Devlet Bahçeli, who proposed that Öcalan could be considered for parole if the PKK renounces the armed struggle and officially dissolved.

Previous efforts of reconciliation, including a major initiative in 2015, finally collapsed.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths since its beginning in 1984.

Its initial objective was to create a separate Kurdish state, but then changed for the requests of greater autonomy.
