The Riviera Country Club will host the first golf event with mixed teams in Olympic history in 2028.
The International Golf Federation announced on Tuesday that the International Olympic Committee had approved the event for the Los Angeles summer games in 2028.

“We are absolutely delighted to see a mixed team event added to the Los Angeles 2028 program,” said Antony Scanlon, director general of the IGF. “Golf has incredibly succeeded in Paris 2024, and while we continue to rely on the momentum of Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, we are delighted to attract even more attention to our sport thanks to this additional format. The athletes were very enthusiastic about their desire to play with their compatriots, and we are impatient to watch them behave together in Los Angeles. ”

The event in the mixed team will be disputed on 36 holes – 18 quartet holes (alternative shooting) for the first round, followed by 18 holes of four balls (best ball) for the last round.
Each country will have a team that includes a male and female golfer selected by the teams and participating in the Olympic and women's Olympic golf competitions. The event with mixed teams will occur after the individual competition of men and before the individual competition of women, each being four laps.

The first event of the Olympic golf team took place in 1904 at the Glen Echo Country Club in St. Louis. Three American teams won the gold, silver and bronze medals.
Golf is one of six sports – joining the archery, athletics (mixed 4x100m relay), gymnastics, coastal beach sprint and table tennis – to add a mixed competition for 2028 games.
