In the days that followed the 2024 elections, I obtained my filling from Mea Culpas from discouraged and mortal democrats “What can we expect from politics?” dismissals of people around me. Shortly after, I visited the Mexican prints at the forefront exposure At the Metropolitan Museum of Art and was deeply moved by the ingenuity and vitality of cartoons and posters. I remember my sense of fear of the brilliant satirical representations of the authoritarianism that José Guadalupe posada created on the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz and my laughs with the rhymes that launch the rich and the powerful. Before leaving, I started thinking that I should try to do the same. So I contacted my colleagues Pablo Helguera and Noah Fischer and presented the idea of a publication. Fortunately for me, they immediately accepted. I was amazed at the will of so many of our colleagues to share their work with us for the first issue of The siren.
