Michael Heat: How does everyone feel?

Katie Drummond: I'm on the road this week, which listeners could notice, but I feel good, I feel good. Lauren, how do you feel?

Lauren Goode: I'm fine, actually. I feel better than I had felt for months.

Katie Drummond: Wow!

Lauren Goode: In one way or another, in a way. I'm not on the road. I think that may be why, I had a long fight without a trip. Katie, I thought you were going to say that after your return from France and you developed this new French butter habit that you feel better than ever.

Katie Drummond: I do. Butter is so affirming life. I ate a lot of French butter. And I feel good! I feel incredible.

Lauren Goode: Amazing. Have you run five miles this morning? This is what I want to know.

Katie Drummond: I ran seven miles this morning. Sorry.

Lauren Goode: Stop it!

Michael Heat: Seven?

Katie Drummond: Yeah.

Michael Heat: Wow.

Lauren Goode: Flex.

Michael Heat: I traveled zero miles last month. No, no, that's not true.

Lauren Goode: No, we went to run.

Michael Heat: In the past two weeks. We did it.

Lauren Goode: Yeah.

Michael Heat: It is an important part of my health routine and when I don't do it, I really feel it.

Katie Drummond: Oh yeah.

Lauren Goode: Yeah,

Michael Heat: Today, we are going to talk about our health, and not just our own health, but the health of all Americans because it has been in the mind of everyone lately. At Wired, we reported on the current dismantling of public health agencies and the financing of research programs. We have followed all the ways in which Elon Musk and his cohort Doge have perfected all our sensitive health data and the sensitive health data of millions of Americans without offering a clear explanation of the reason why they do. And we looked at the change of culture around vaccines in America and changing attitudes as to the role of government in our collective well-being. In this episode, we are going to talk about all of this. We will talk about the epidemic of measles. We will talk about all the other health crises that we really think we would never have to talk about again. But it will not all be heavy stuff, I am sure that we will find a way at a time to have fun in this show.
