Marine Salvage experts began on Sunday recovering the Bayesian Superyacht of British School Superyacht 56 meters from the seabed off Sicily, where he sank last summer.

British technology magnate Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah and five others were killed in the tragedy on August 19, 2024.

The Italian Coast Guard has confirmed that its officers supervise operations and patrol the security perimeter created to ensure the safety of the staff working on the recovery.

“With the use of submarine operators and remote-controlled robots, ROVS (remote vehicles operated), all operations will be carried out for about a week in preparation for the ship lifting,” the captain of the Italian coast guard Nicola Silvestri said on Sunday.

“ Hebo Lift 10 '', one of the most powerful sea cranes in Europe, moored on Saturday in the Sicilian port of Termini Imerese in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, in preparation for the operation.

With the help of another dozen marine and logistics specialists operating from Shore, around 70 European marine experts were mobilized in Sicily for the operation.

According to Silvestri, the real lifting that will bring the ship to the surface will occur in a second phase of operations.

For this to be done, the 75 -meter aluminum mast of the yacht, the second highest in the world, will be cut to allow the shell, which is 49 meters below the surface, to be brought back more easily to the surface.

The tragic sinking of the Bayesian

The Bayesian, a maximum yacht of 473,000 kg, sank after only sixteen minutes and shortly before dawn on August 19 of last year.

The Superyacht was anchored 300 meters from the small fishing port of Porticello, about 15 kilometers east of Palermo, in Sicily, before the tragedy.

Of the 12 passengers and 10 crew members aboard the Bayesian, only seven stayed on the yacht while it was starting to take the water.

About fifteen people have managed to escape in a lifestyle with the help of nearby ships. The remaining people failed to get out of the condemned Superyacht.

In addition to the British technology magnate Mike Lynch and her 18 -year -old Hannah, who died in the incident, Morgan Stanley’s international president Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy, lawyer Chris Mornvillo and his wife Neda, and the ship's cook, Recaldo Thomas, all died in the shipwreck.

After long and extended research operations that lasted until August 23, the bodies of six missing people were recovered. A body had been previously recovered from the first emergency rescue operation after the sinking of the yacht.

The investigations carried out by Italian prosecutors in the cause of the sinking, including the potential accusations against the captain and two crew members for a possible responsibility, are in progress.
