To the editor: In April 2024, The times reported That taxpayers had not received a clear response to the place where the billions of dollars intended for the homeless programs had disappeared. Now, a year later, an update of an audit led to justice – published on the website of the American district judge David O. Carter and reported by time – noted that the city, and in particular the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, could not follow exactly how much it spent for the homeless programs and if the services were even provided. Ineptia, obscure, waste and possibly fraud. Finally, the council of supervisors of the County of Los Angeles voted to create a new department of the homeless of the county, which will ultimately control the funds generated by measure A-the new sales tax of semi-cent for the homeless for which we, the taxpayers, voted in November (“” “Comté supervisors create a new agency for homeless, despite the warnings of Mayor,»April 1). To the editor: We don't need a new homeless agency. We must use each dollar allocated to buy a recreational vehicle, a car house, a home depot tool hangar transformed into a cabin or another prefabricated unit. This absurd political attitude of creating agencies that monitor the number of homeless people – employee staff walking with a stamp asking the homeless if they are OK – is the way California and Los Angeles have dilapidated millions. In 2023, There were a little less than seven homeless who died a day in Los Angeles. Is it “Change?” What change?
