A firefighter helping to put out a fire at Pico Rivera was injured when he was hit by a pipe which was overthrown by an Amtrak train on Sunday evening, April 20, the authorities announced.
A fire broke out in a courtyard in Rivera Road and Cord avenue with firefighters from the County of Los Angeles responding around 10:15 p.m.
“A train has crossed our pipe, indirectly injuring a firefighter,” said Fred Fielding, spokesperson for the department.
The SGT of Sheriff. Leobardo Trujillo said the pipe had hit the firefighter.
The details on what happened had not been disclosed.
The firefighter was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, said Fielding, adding that he did not know the firefighter and if the firefighter was still at the hospital on Monday.
The fire was overturned at 10:54 p.m., said Fielding.
