The team chose to sign the José Ureña and Spencer Turnbull launchers at one year. Ureña was appointed for assignment last week by the New York Mets, and Turnbull was optionized at Florida Complex League.
Scherzer, 40, had only one departure this season. He launched three rounds and granted two points in a defeat at the Orioles of Baltimore on March 29, and launched only 45 throws, Before leaving early with a badly straight muscle. He said the injury has developed due to a thumb problem.
“I just didn't have the impression of being able to really let the ball go”, Scherzer said at the time. “I had to go back the level of effort. I was able to spend at least three years and not blow up the enclosure of the lifts. But after this third round, I could just say that we are in imminent danger.”
Scherzer’s thumb had also been a concern in the season of the season. He was limited to only four departures in training in the spring, and he could not shake him in the months that followed.
