Godolphin's sovereignty was sent to Saratoga on Wednesday, but the team of coach Bill Mott still appreciates the moment.
“It was really incredible,” said Kenny McCarthy, longtime assistant from Churchill Downs from Mott. “Everyone in the horse racing industry works hard every day. To gain the derby is just an incredible feeling. Especially for our local staff. They had the opportunity now to be with the horse. They deserve this.
“We have always had such great hopes for him. We had him in our barn at 2 years old when he broke his young daughter in the sense of the street. It was a really wonderful experience. ”
Sovereignty will ignore the preakness issues of May 17 (G1) and target the Belmont Stakes of June 7 (G1) in Saratoga.
As part of the post-secret tradition of La Grange, McCarthy brought the Garland of Roses on Sunday to the Bambi Bar on Bardstown Road to share the victory with friends and the staff, just as he did in 2019 after the victory of the Country House derby.
