The United States Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, announced on Friday the initiation of a new system for the delivery of humanitarian aid and food in Gaza, operations that should start “very soon”.
Recognizing the famine relationships and the casualness of the humanitarian crisis, Huckabee said that various charities, non -profit organizations and several governments would collaborate on this new aid distribution framework, intended to replace the current effort led by United Nation.
“Notable efforts, and this will require the partnership not only of governments, but NGOs, charitable organizations, non -profit organizations around the world,” said Huckabee.
“There are several partners who have already agreed to be part of the effort. We are not yet ready to name them because some of the details of their participation are being developed,” he continued.
Huckabee did not offer a lot of details on the logistics of this new initiative, but stressed that Israel would ensure the safety of deliveries.
“The first is that the food is distributed effectively, but also that it is securely distributed inside Gaza to people who desperately need it. The other factor, and it is important, that all of this is done in a way so that Hamas cannot get their hands on it.”
Huckabee said that Israel would only provide security details to ensure that the help reaches the people it is supposed to reach. The system as a whole must however be managed independently.
Israel has expressed concerns about the looting and diversion of Hamas fighters, allegations that have been refuted by UN officials and humanitarian workers.
In light of these concerns, Israel continues to apply his blockade to essential supplies such as food, fuel and medication.
Although Israel has declared that it will allow the help of entering Gaza only under a system which allows it to supervise the distribution, Huckabee stressed that this new system should not be labeled as Israel.
The UN has regularly rejected plans which put control of the aid distribution to Israel.
The UN officials say any arrangement in which Israel decides who receives what and how much the principles of humanity of the organization which judge to ensure humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality.
