During the fourth consecutive week of dismissal announcements, Tesla said it was now focusing on reducing the staff of its Bay region's facilities as part of a larger decision to reduce jobs worldwide.
State deposits show that Tesla plans to dismiss 378 employees in its Fremont facilities and 223 in its Palo Alto offices.
The layoffs will occur over a period of 14 days from June 20.
An e-mail to Tesla officials asking for comments was not immediately returned.

It is not immediately clear what positions are cut. San Francisco Chronicle have indicated that they would include technicians, electricians, software engineers, plumbers and sports coaches.

“While we are preparing the company at our next growth phase, it is extremely important to consult all aspects of the company for cost reductions and the increase in productivity,” Musk wrote in the April e-mail.
“Within the framework of this effort, we made an in-depth examination of the organization and made the difficult decision to reduce our effort by more than 10% in the world,” he continued. “There is nothing that I hate more, but it must be done.”
