Who are the key players?

But when Joel learns that the procedure kills her (doctors need her brain), he continues Mortal outburst To stop the fireflies and escape with Ellie. As they return to Jackson, Ellie asks Joel what happened and he told her that the militia group had already tried without success to develop a remedy with other immune people and had abandoned.
