Sublime works on a new album with the group's leader's son.
The extremely influential – long beach skunk trio – including the singer Bradley Nowell Died in 1996 – said on Wednesday that he wrote and recorded songs with Nowell's son, 29, Jakob, who entered the role of his father with sublime at the end of 2023. The group works with producers Travis Barker (by Blink -182) and John Feldmann and plans to publish the first single of the LP this summer.
“I grew up on sublime,” said Barker in a statement, adding that the 1992 album of the group “40 Oz. To freedom” “changed the way I listened to music.” Feldmann, known for his work with pop-punk acts, including Good Charlotte and 5 seconds from the summer, said that working with sublime “was a highlight of my life”.
After playing with sublime for the first time in public during a concert of HR services for Bad Brains Hardcore pioneer, Jakob Nowell faced the group last year in Coachelor Then played a series of festival dates with the drummer Bud Gaugh and the bassist Eric Wilson, who trained sublime with Bradley Nowell in the late 80s. The death of Bradley Nowell after an overdose of accidental heroin occurred just two months before the release of the group's first major album. However, this eponymous LP has become a quintuple-platin Smash, generating Alt-Rock radio staples at the end of the 90s like “What I Got”, “Santeria” and “Wrong Way”.
After the death of Nowell, Gaugh and Wilson played together in the dub of Long Beach Allstars; In 2009, the two wrote the singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez to interpret the music of sublime under the name of Sublime with Rome.
Last year, Jakob Nowell told Times that people had put him pressure for years to play with his father's former group comrades but that he had always been reluctant, in part because he had his own musical interests and partly because of his complicated relationship with his father's memory. He changed his mind after a “spiritual pilgrimage”, as he said, at the Petaluma theater where Bradley Nowell played his last concert.
Sublime has toured dates this summer, including a May 3 judgment at the Beachlife Festival in Redondo Beach.
