According to several reportsCrosby called for an extension of two years shorter – rather than a three or four -year agreement, which was potentially underway – to avoid being a burden for the team because of their age. Crosby would also have chosen to settle for a smaller agreement that it could have given Pittsburgh financial flexibility to acquire more talents and make the team more competitive.
