“Over the past ten years, we have had many shootings related to the gangs in Sweden,” said Ulf Krister in an interview with Euronews.
KrisSson added that he had “enormous efforts to increase the police capacities to find them, stop them and use all the different methods to detect them before committing their crimes”. He insisted that the number of shots decreased, but it was not yet finished.
But the security problems of Sweden are not only internal, following several incidents of submarine cables in the Baltic Sea in recent months. It is believed that the damage result from ships that drag their anchors along the foundations. Kristersson refrained from assigning responsibilities, but noted that the circumstances suspected.
“We do not blame countries without very specific information,” he said.
However, he said that when he speaks to people who knew themselves the conditions of the Baltic Sea, they say the chance that ships can drop their anchors without noticing and suddenly damaging cables – “This simply does not happen.”
In response to the security situation after the invasion of Ukraine on a large scale by Russia, Sweden also became the last member of NATO in March 2024. A few months later, Donald Trump was elected American president, which sparked questions about the country's reliability in the face of a potential aggression against European allies. However, the Prime Minister has no doubt.
“We are certainly much safer as one of the 32 of the Alliance,” said Kristersson.
However, the United States is not the only concerns of NATO.
Swedish journalist Joakim Medin was recently arrested in Türkiye and accused of insulting the president and belonging to a terrorist organization.
“The fact that NATO countries have different opinions on various questions is not new,” said the Prime Minister, adding that Sweden and Turkey have very different opinions on freedom of expression.
“This does not mean that we are very concerned about the fact that Swedish journalist is judged today.”
The trial is underway and the legitimacy of the case has been widely criticized by politicians and human rights organizations.
