The woman who killed a singer mortally Selena Quintanilla-Perez Conditional releases were refused a few days before the 30th anniversary of the death of the Tejano music superstar.
Yolanda SaldívarNow 64, spent three decades in prison after conviction for first degree murder. Saldívar shot the singer at the rear in a Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 31, 1995, after Quintanilla-Perez accused her of diverting money.
Saldívar is currently serving a perpetuity sentence to the Patrick L. O'Daniel unit in Gatesville and submitted a parole request which was refused Thursday due to the violent nature of his crime, according to the Documents of Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The offense had “elements of brutality, violence, behavior of aggression or conscious selection of the victim's vulnerability indicating a conscious contempt for life, security or the property of others, so that the offender represents a continuous threat to public security”, said documents of the conditional liberation council.
The process of parole in Texas implies a complete examination, including interviews and evaluations on its behavior in prison and a potential impact on the community if it is released. The case of Saldívar is eligible for a review in 2030.
Former county of Nueces Dist. Atty. Carlos Valdez, who led the accusation against Saldívar, expressed his concerns about his release due to the gravity of the crime and the potential risks it would present to public security.
