Kharkiv's Ukrainian city has undergone an attack on Russian drones for about two hours with eyewitnesses reporting around twenty explosions across the city.
According to the city mayor, Ihor Terekhov, the fires broke out in four districts with one of the largest on the Barabashovo market, the fourth time since the start of the large -scale invasion of Russia, she caught fire.
Managers say that 90 stores on the market have been destroyed.
In the western part of the city, the several floor residential building has been damaged, one of the residents saying that drone strikes occurred in several waves.
“At around 4:20 am, the first explosion occurred, then they continued to come one after the other. After the tenth, we stopped counting,” said Natalia Mishokova.
“My front door has been exploded, as well as the balcony and the window. My car is also damaged.”
Four drones also struck a hotel and a restaurant complex in the north of the city with the head of the regional military administration, Oleh Syniehubov, saying that four people suffered from acute stress.
Attacks against sumy
Meanwhile, residents of Bilopillia in the neighboring Sumy region began to evacuate Tuesday in the midst of intensified Russian attacks.
Local authorities, including mayor Yurii Zarko, have indicated that the security situation in the city has worsened in recent days, which has caused a renewal of calls for evacuation.
“Even those who did not want to leave earlier, or who left and then returned – those who still have a place to return – they see that the situation gets worse, so they evacuate again,” said Zarko.
“Most people who have their own transport have already left. But for those who do not have a way to leave – especially now with destroyed bridges and no public transport – they count entirely on the current situation. And like the empire situation, people make the decision to leave in order to stay safe.”
Many residents, including the elderly and those who have limited mobility, have left with the help of emergency services and the Ukrainian Red Cross teams.
Volodymyr Moskalenko, commander of the quick response unit for the Ukrainian Red Cross, said two ambulances were used to move people with reduced mobility.
“We will load them, and they will head directly to Sumy. The more competent vehicle in all-terrain will go where the roads are really bad, where access is difficult-we will also collect people from there,” he said.
Mandatory evacuation for children
More than 30 children have been evacuated from the village of Shakhove in the Donetsk region in the last three days, according to the head of the local military administration Serhiy Sazhko.
On May 2, the authorities announced a compulsory evacuation for families with minors in Shakhove and Totretske due to Russian bombing in progress.
“We have already had a compulsory evacuation of two administrative districts, but at that time, the security situation was much better. Now people see the situation for themselves,” said Sazhko.
“There were 54 children in Shakhove; for the moment, 23 remain.
Families are transported safely in Voloshyne in the Zytomyr region where they will be organized by volunteers.
