Royal Caribbean recently made a major change to the route of several of their cruise Routes. The popular cruise line will no longer stop in Labadee, Haiti. Labadee is home to a private seaside resort belonging to Royal Caribbean.
The change is made due to the increase in crime, the activity of gangs and political disorders in Haiti. The US State Department gave the island nation a level 4 travel notice, the higher level alert they emit, citing: “Do not go to Haiti due to removal, crime, civil disorders and limited health care.”
Royal Caribbean published a declaration and shared with Southern life By e-mail:
“By an abundance of prudence, we have temporarily interrupted our next visits to Labadee. We have already communicated directly with the guests.”
There are a little less than a dozen ships in the Fleet of Royal Caribbean which have routes which included Labadee. All ships except a share of three southern cities: Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Orlando (Port Canaveral).
With Labadee, temporarily withdrawn from the routes, it is not clear if a new destination will be added in its place. According to Travel and leisureLabadee was very popular with Royal Caribbean customers. “Halls like a roller coaster, slides and a water trampoline make it one of the best Caribbean beaches for families.”
It is a story in development.
