Romanian troops presented themselves on a battlefield simulation in the heart of Bucharest to simulate urban war, because the Romanian army is increasingly focused on combat exercises which involve alleged attacks against densely populated areas.

The exercises, which took place near the residential buildings of the national capital, were designed to improve military preparation and complexity in real contexts.

“The conflict that is currently taking place in Ukraine sends us certain signals, lessons that we can identify,” said Marius Tudora, of the 21st mountain battalion.

“Certain new tactical techniques and procedures used in the theater of operations” can lead to “lessons that we also learn, good practices that we identify in this current safety environment,” he added.

The army has installed inflatable structures resembling one -stage buildings with plastic doors to create a realistic environment. The soldiers progressed on the ground using Airsoft rifles, non -lethal alternatives which always allow realistic training conditions.

The troops deployed surveillance drones and sailing in the training area using mountain bikes, which were also used in the simulated evacuation of the injured staff.

Urban combat exercises also take place in the Cincu military base in Romania, which welcomes 1,500 foreign soldiers. The base frequently hosts live shooting exercises, strengthening the eastern side of NATO.
