According to Friedrich Merz, its conservative block of the CDU / CSU and the leaders of the Social Democratic Party have agreed with common principles on migration and the economy.
The Conservative Party of Friedrich Merz (CDU) ended the first stage of the talks aimed at creating a coalition government with the Social Democrats (SPD), party officials and other party officials said on Saturday.
The two parties want to start discussions on the formation of a coalition government, said Merz, saying that the CDU will decide on Monday to open the second and last stage of talks.
Coalition governments, a standard in Germany, are generally established in two phases, the first being exploratory talks before official talks occur.
According to Merz, its conservative block of the CDU / CSU and the leaders of the Social Democratic Party agreed on the common principles on migration, the economy and the industry.
“In coordination with our European neighbors, we will reject people at our common borders, including asylum seekers,” said Merz.
Earlier this week, the potential partners of the next German government said they would seek to create a fund of 500 billion euros to finance spending on Germany's failure infrastructure over the next decade to restore the greatest European economy.
In 2024, the German economy contracted for the second consecutive year, while Chinese competition reduced traditional exports of industrial machines and cars of the country, and worried consumers have reduced their expenses.
The CDU / SPD coalition wishes to give the economy to a regular growth course. They also said that they would seek to loosen the country's rules on the improvement of debt to allow higher defense expenses, an increasing emergency question as doubts increase on the commitment of the United States to European allies.
Merz reiterated this on Saturday, saying that there was an enormous emergency, “in particular concerning the Bundeswehr (military) budget”.
Merz, the German chancellor probably incoming, hopes to have a coalition in place by April 20. The United States under Trump is no longer considered a reliable ally, Merz warned that he was “five minutes at midnight” for Europe to be left against Russia.
However, the CDU / CSU block and the SPD need the support of the green part in order to pass the proposals.
In -depth discussions will take place with the Greens next week, according to Merz.
