- Ikea will open its Oxford Street store tomorrow, giving Londoners and visitors to the capital the possibility of buying thousands of domestic products and affordable dinner in the heart of the city
- The opening follows a meticulous renovation of 214 Oxford Street, an emblematic building of Grade II which now hosts a new Ikea store inspiring and innovative on three floors
Ikea will be tomorrow, Thursday 1st May, open the doors of its Oxford Street store, welcoming the first visitors to its new location of the London Central. Creating a unique shopping experience in the heart of one of the most dynamic shopping streets in the world, Ikea Oxford Street will bring together home and retail innovation, offering more than just shopping.
Following a vast renovation of the classified building of grade II to 214 Oxford Street by Ingka Investments, the INGKA Group's investment branch, IKEA will extend on three floors of the emblematic seven -story building.
The opening marks an important step in Ikea's strategy to increase its presence in city centers and develop with smaller formats, increasing accessibility for customers through the United Kingdom.

Ikea Oxford Street's start -up features include:
- Organized shops -On the ground floor are three “organized stores”; The commercial changes created by the Londoners reflect and celebrate the character and diversity of the city's residents. Several times a year, the new Londoners will be invited to organize their own selection of products.
- Ikea emblematic showroom – In IKEA stores around the world, roommates are inspired by local life situations. In Ikea Oxford Street, it was pushed a little further, with spaces and roommates co-created with real people depending on their own house in the capital. This is inspired by others living in urban areas, including configurations to work at home and manage a small business, inspiration for properties with period characteristics, ideas for basements with little natural light and concepts for relaxing balcony spaces.
- Design services – Customers can find the usual personalized IKEA design support with well informed home mobilization experts, including for interior design, kitchen and room storage planning.
- Swedish grocery store – Buyers can rest and recharge in Swedish charcuterie at 130 places from Ikea or opt to withdraw all options. Classic IKEA dishes will be available, including hot dogs from £ 0.85 and main favorites such as meatballs or 12 pieces or planting balls for as little as £ 4.95. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as snacking options for visitors, will bring affordable meals to the heart of the city.
- New spaces (and used) – In a world premiere for IKEA, the Oxford Street store will include a 25m2 Live studio with broadcasting capabilities. The space will allow IKEA to present and accommodate interactive experiences and exhibitions for events related to locally. The new store will also have a section of Re-Shop and reuse, an area to buy second-life, used and abandoned Ikea products, to help people live a more sustainable life at home.
- Delivery services – Small furniture will be available to bring immediately to the store, with around 3,500 IKEA products ready to use. For the biggest items that cannot make it all up in the famous Ikea Blue Frakta bag, buyers can order from the product range of 10,000 people from IKEA, to be delivered directly to their home or to one of the many IKEA collection points through the city.
