NHL Rumors: Winnipeg Jets May Not Consider Shane Pinto as Cole Perfetti Replacement

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas on episode 32 Thoughts: The Podcast – A Bevy of Extensions as Training Camps Begin on Winnipeg Jets forward Cole Perfetti, who is still out of contract. The Jets may not agree with a comparison that has been floated.

** Transcript from NHLRumors.com

Friedman: “You know, Perfetti. It was interesting. We talked about how, I think, a lot of agents and teams looked at it and said (Shane) Pinto was the, was the, was the, was the comparable player.

NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins vs. Philadelphia Flyers

They’re not the comparable team. The team would probably want to avoid that. But Pinto was kind of the comparable agent and the comparable player to Perfetti because they played the same number of games. They have essentially the same number of points, and he just got this two-year extension from Ottawa into a five-year deal.

You know, the Jets have kind of indicated that they don’t see it the same way. And I understand that if I were a team and I didn’t like that deal, I’d say, ‘No, no, we’re not going there, we’re going to do that one.’

The only thing about Pinto is I saw someone mention that Pinto was eligible for arbitration. He wasn’t. He didn’t meet the threshold for arbitration eligibility. So you kind of have to put that one aside.

NHL Rumors: Cole Perfetti, Winnipeg Jets appear confident of deal completion

But I still understand what the team is trying to do here. I’m not sure everyone sees it the same way, but I understand why the Jets are saying that. They don’t like Pinto’s contract. They don’t want to go there for a Perfetti. So their Point is saying, no, no, we don’t see it the same way. Again, there’s always a gap, and we’ll see where it goes.
