Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia plans to start a direct rail freight service between its capital Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok in neighboring Thailand this year to stimulate bilateral and regional trade, reported the state media, citing the Minister of Transport.
The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, said that the cabinet and the Prime Minister had approved the proposal and that the rail service was to start its operations later this year, reported the Bernama press agency on Sunday, May 4.
“A direct rail link from Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok will also improve connectivity to other countries, including Laos, China and Central Asia,” said Loke. The report did not enter into detail on the plan.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport Thailand did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
