To the editor: Congratulations to film criticism Amy Nicholson for a thoughtful play on the policy of “Star Wars” (“” Star Wars “taught us the bad ideas about the rebellion?” April 23). When the first film was released in 1977, we were in the middle of the president and the stagflation of President Jimmy Carter. I remember it. Leadership was rare or ignored. The courage and the wave shown on the screen took place “a long time ago in a galaxy far, very far”, which means that any possible relevance for the 1977 problems was simply a coincidence. This political disinfection continued in consequences and prequelles.
