Letters to the publisher: Pope Francis leaves behind a climate heritage which must be respected

To the editor: The title says everything in the recent article by columnist Sammy Roth on Pope Francis (“Pope Francis was a climate hero. Trump's reign gives his words an additional meaning”, “ April 22). I am not Catholic, but I cry the death of the pope because he spoke for so much of us. Francis had training as a scientist before joining the priesthood, and he was thoughtful and intelligent. His premonitory “Laudato yes“What, as Roth notes, is” almost certainly the most famous climate test ever written “, leaves a rich heritage that we inherit and a call that we must take into account.

Among the many photographs circulating since the Pope's death, my favorite was taken in Rome and represents a smiling Francis against the young ecologist Greta Thunberg holding a small poster that says: “Celebrate Laudato Si.” He reminds us that we have to fight the climate.
