Loomer’s ties to the Trump campaign in 2020 appear to go deeper than just an endorsement. Mediaite reported At the time, the Trump campaign was using Loomer’s email list to solicit donations, and a Trump campaign fundraising email sent in January 2020 was sent by 2020 Illoominate Media, a media company owned by Loomer.

Loomer also ran for Congress in 2022 in another Florida district — this time without Trump’s endorsement — but failed to win her Republican primary.

In April 2023, The New York Times reported Trump reportedly tried to hire Loomer to be part of his reelection campaign team, but the idea was scrapped following outrage from some of the former president’s biggest supporters. Several months after the New York Times article was published, Loomer posted a video of herself with Trump on X, with the caption: “The best president ever. I love him so much.” Trump reciprocatedcalling Loomer “terrific” and “very special,” adding, “You’re a very opinionated woman, I have to tell you. And I think I like that.”

Not everyone in Trump’s world hates her, either. In October, Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, appeared on Loomer’s show Scold and told her, “I love what you do.” Trump campaign adviser Alex Bruesewitz also praised Loomer, writing on X: “Laura is a great journalist and a great American.”

In November, Donald Trump Jr. said he would “love to see” Loomer named his father’s press secretary “just to see Washington explode.” Loomer responded that she would “gladly accept” and that “no one is going to fight harder for President Trump or defend him against the fake news media than I am.”

A few months later, Loomer traveled on Trump’s plane During her visit to Iowa as a campaign stop in early January, her ties to Trump didn’t stop her from posting conspiracy theories: While there, she claimed the Capitol attack was an “insider job” and wrote on X: “I personally think J6 should be a national holiday where we celebrate the bravery of American patriots who protested a stolen election.”

Trump’s support for Loomer is well-documented, even by Loomer herself. Trump’s official campaign website has shared articles from Loomer’s site on multiple occasions, including several articles attacking the judges overseeing Trump’s various criminal trials. When Loomer posted a video of herself harassing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Trump’s campaign opponent, the former president shared it. He shares much of what she writes, including her false claim that she obtained a copy of Harris’ birth certificate that does not say the vice president is American or black. “Kamala Harris is NOT black and never has been,” Loomer wrote in a post on Truth Social, which Trump shared on the platform.

“Every time President Trump sees me, he always says, ‘You’re so smart. I love your website so much. You’re so smart. I love your articles… I read your website every day,’” Loomer said of his Twitter account. Loomer Unleashed podcast.

Unlike many other far-right figures in Trump’s entourage, Loomer doesn’t seem to be political. She doesn’t express her hatred in coded language to appear more conventional, and while this has led to her being ostracized by many right-wing figures, Trump has remained loyal to her.

“She was mostly a joke to the far right, who saw her antics as embarrassing and overblown,” Joan Donovan, an assistant professor of journalism and emerging media studies at Boston University, tells WIRED. That’s exactly what Trump wants, Donovan says: “She’s willing to say out loud what she says in silence. She’s known for the kind of inflammatory, bigoted rhetoric that political strategists say would hurt her chances of winning.”
