Lambourn claims victory in Chester Vase Stakes

Lambourn produced a solid finish to win the Chester Vase Stakes during a leading test for the derby next month in Epsom.

The favorite 11-8, under the Jockey Ryan Moore, was third third in the final stretch, but launched and won with a length and a half.

Lazy Griff finished second while converging claimed the third.

“He looked like a full stay and while he was a bit out of the bridle, once Le Penny fell, he returned very strongly to the house,” said coach Aidan O'Brien, who won the Chester Vase Stakes for a record 11th time.

He added: “He succeeded very well the trip and he crossed the line.

“At this point, you must say that it is part of the EPSOM team but it's a week busy for the tests. We have Lingfield, there is Leopardstown and then there is also York.

“We will just have to see how they all get along, but we thought of sending it to Epsom, because they learn so much when they go to Chester.”
