Laftc head coach Steve Cherundolo Will cut off the completion of the season and return to Germany, the club announced on Friday.
“It is an honor to be the LAFC head coach,” said Cherundolo in a statement. “After a lot of reflection and discussion with my family, we decided that at the end of this year, we will return to Germany. I love Los Angeles and Lafc, but this decision is in the best interest of my family, even if it will finally move us away from a team, a city, an organization and a base of fans that I am proud to represent. “
Cherundolo, who grew up in San Diego and made three lists of the World Cup for the United States, spent his entire club career in Germany with Hanover 96. His wife and children were born in Germany.
Cherundolo, 46, was an unprecedented success with the LAFC since he was hired in January 2022 as the second head coach in the history of the club, going 87-43-26 in all competitions. He is the only coach in MLS history to win the Shield and the MLS Cup of supporters in his first season. He also won the US Open Cup 2024 and took the team to the Concacaf Champions League final in 2023.
Lafc, which ended at the top of the regular seasonal table at the Western Conference last year, is 4-4-0 and seventh place this season.
