New York – Alex Turcotte and Warren Foegele scored in the first period, and the Kings beat the New York Rangers 5-1 on Saturday for their seventh victory in eight games.
Quinton Byfield, Adrian Kempe and Phillip Danault also scored while the Kings handed over to the Rangers their ninth defeat in 12 games. Darcy Kuemper made 31 stops.
Captain Anze Kopitar collected two assists while the Kings hunted the goalkeeper of Rangers Igor Shesterkin in the second period. Shesterkin granted five equal goals on 21 shots.
Turcotte opened the scoring at 7:05 am, whisking the washer in front of Shesterkin to finish a pause two against one with Kempe. Foegele was 2-0 at 3:06 p.m. from the first.
Byfield scored at 2:46 a.m. from the second, followed by Kempe at 4:40 am and Danault at 5:04 am.
Shesterkin was withdrawn after Danault's goal in favor of Jonathan Quick, a former Kings goalkeeper. Shesterkin fell to 10-11-1 this season.
Filip Chytil scored his sixth goal for New York.
The Rangers were without defender K'andre Miller, who suffered an upper body injury during Thursday's victory in Buffalo. Miller was replaced by Connor Mackey.
Kuemper improved at 7-2-3, while Kopitar now leads the Kings with 34 points, including eight goals.
The Kings are 7-2-3 against the opponents of the Eastern Conference and have granted two or less goals in seven of their last eight games.
The Kings visit Pittsburgh's Penguins on Tuesday. The Rangers visit the Blues of St. Louis on Sunday for the opening of a three -game trip.
