A large explosion occurred at the port of Shahid Rajaee in Bandar Abbas in southern Iran on Saturday, according to the Iranian Tasnim news agency.
The explosion affected the offices belonging to the port, and its intensity was sufficient to cause an earthquake that resonated in neighboring cities, the agency said. The explosion also broke the glass of buildings several kilometers from the incident site.
Local media reported that 280 people had been injured.
The director general of crisis management in the province of Hormozan, who includes Bandar Abbas, said that the cause of the explosion is still unknown.
The Provincial Department of Hormozgan Ports explained that the explosion occurred in part of the port quay, noting that fire fighting teams are currently working to extinguish the fire caused by the explosion.
