“I often fantasized that one day my father came across my face on a magazine blanket and was defeated with regret not having known such a wonderful girl,” writes Ione Skye. The 54 -year -old actor and Gen x it girl brings together his turbulent life in his memories, “say everything.”

His father, the famous folk musician, Donovan, only recognized him at the age of 17. In 1987, shortly after Skye played in “River's Edge”, his father's lawyer sent an official letter to Skye's mother asking Skye a DNA test to establish whether or not she was Donovan's biological girl.

Was it why her father had always called her “the girl”, she wondered?

Skye says: “There are so many things with my father: his avoidance and fear of intimacy, his selfishness. But, for sure, it's very different like my brother, my husband and (my daughter) Kate's fathers are so conscientious. … My father is not alone in being this kind of father (absent), as an artist of his generation. “

But Skye's father is the least interesting aspect of his life, as his book reveals. Skye's mother and her mother's eccentric boyfriends as well as Skye's older brother, Donovan Jr., provide many stories. Growing up in Hollywood with budding actors, musicians and Starstruck fans also makes an endless drama.

“I am quite open as a person,” she says. “Whether it grows in Los Angeles, where people have a very open culture because everyone is doing therapy, or I'm like that.

As for timing, Skye says: “I am at an age when I trusted myself. I really felt supported by my husband and the editor and the editor -in -chief. And although the book becomes definitively vulnerable, people seem really interested in the 90s and what it was to be an actor, to know these people. ”

Skye remembers his first life and the feeling of despair of love that led him to whirling romances with Keanu Reeves, River Phoenix, Matthew Perry, Jenny Shimizu, Ingrid Casares, (a boost to the heroine) Anthony Kiedis and Robert Downey Jr., among others. She married Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz in the 1990s. The pair divorced in 1999 after seven years and Skye's affairs with women. She married another musician, Ben Lee, about a decade later. Her marriage with the Australian singer is the epilogue, intentionally withdrawn from the old life and the lovers she documents.

“I had thought it would be one of the most difficult moments of my life when Adam and I broke. But I liked all this freedom I had when I was in New York, and I had my own apartment. It was the first time I did what I should have been, which was adapted to age in mid-20 years, “says Skye.

Until this moment, Skye has streets that she had lived as an adult since childhood, the inevitable consequence of entry into Hollywood in adolescence and which lacks conventional parental advice. Now a parent herself, Skye says she understands her father, even if her approach to raising children is very different.

The book is a wild ride – fantastic and disorder of Hollywood evenings from the 1990s of his youth at Ashrams, behind the scenes of rock shows and on film sets like “Wayne's World”, “River's Edge”, “Say Anything” and “Gas Food Lodging”. She remembers a handsome young Reeves with a soft voice on the edge of celebrity in “River's Edge”, the insured of director Cameron Crowe on “Say Anything” and the intense friendship she developed with John Cusack on this film, although the pair is never dated. At 15, Skye sought to be legally emancipated because other children actors had done the same as the means to avoid the legal requirements of minors on the set. She writes: “It was a dream, ranging from high school to this incredible universe where I was able to play an imagination all day.”

She also had to kiss an adult life when she was not immune to childhood. Skye's first serious relationship threw him directly into the quagmire to try to love, take care and leave a heroine drug addict. “There was me before Anthony and me after,” she wrote about her relationship with the leader of Red Hot Chili Peppers Kiedis. “Sometimes I led all night to look for it, traveling through the usual places again and again: the corner of the sixth and union, the market where it bought Bleach for its needles, the Eat'n High Thai restaurant on the fountain.

It is a relationship that Skye considers differently as the mother of a 16 -year -old daughter.

She has no regrets to remember the heartbreaking adolescence that she spent looking at her boyfriend in the hooks of dependence, since Kiedis put her own demons in her 2004 memories.

“I don't want to expose someone's life, and legally you can't anyway. He really defined everything in (his book) “scar fabric”, she says. “I thought people could be interested in my side of history.”

Skye concedes that the writing of a memory is a challenge, but not so emotionally as narrative – bypassing the flow and the narration with the lively eye of an editor.

“I loved writing since I was young, so I have a good memory. It was not as if I discovered one of these stories that I had mentally locked; I thought about it. So writing this was good and difficult to do.

It is easy to draw a clear parallel between the early rejection of his father and his hunger for recognition, desire and attention.

However, she thwarts: “I did not want it to be all about the pursuit of love and romance. I don't want to use the word “addict love”, but I saw that I really were looking for security and at the minute when someone was out of sight, it was “out of sight, out of mind! What calmed me was having someone with me, even my friends.

She adds: “More clearly than ever, I saw that if I could do a game of my life, it would be to meet the whole scene of the peppers (Red Hot) when I was 10 years older, or simply to have been friends with them. I wanted to have a lighter touch with all this group. I like a lot of people in this group, but I really went too far, and that's why I got so young.

Having served both sad and attractive stories, Skye envelops her memories in tribute to the husband and the adult children she loves. And – with cinema roles and work as a painter – this memory is far from a complete stop to his creative life.
