Hate the banal white walls, the intercom voice saying categorically “now serving” and the plastic chairs that make you uncomfortable near strangers while you are waiting for an eternity to renew your driving license?
The Department of Motor Vehicles feels your pain and wants you to do this and other important tasks in the comfort of your home.
In fact, you will have no choice – these services will only be available.
As part of a “digital transformation focused on self -depressed customers”, the DMV extends its digital services and no longer deals with simple transactions in its offices.
From June 3, the department's website, DMV.CA.GOV., Will be the main way to obtain the following services:
- Recording renewals of single vehicles that have not passed on the due date.
- Driving license renewals that do not require a person in person (drivers aged 70 and over are among those who will still have to enter a DMV office to renew).
- Requests for copies of vehicle registration files, which show the history of the property of a vehicle.
- Requests for copies of driving license files, which show the history of a driver.
- Requests for replacing a lost or stolen driving license / identification card.
These services are also accessible by sending the documents required to the DMV or by calling the ministry. In some cases, they can be carried out via a DMV kiosk.
If you go to your local DMV office, the staff will not treat these services in person, but rather tell you their website or their alternative of “out of service” options.
By moving these online services, the DMV expects the office visits to decrease 200,000 customers per month, or around 2.4 million per year.
The change occurs just before the start of the summer season, during the office visit to the DMV Peak, said DMV director Steve Gordon, in a statement.
“We know that it will just get worse in our offices with lines and waiting times unless our customers help by going online first,” said Gordon. “Help us help you.” Always try online first and use the other practical channels that we have made available to make you easily take care of DMV business. ”
