Bangkok: More than 300 Myanmar fled to Thailand to take refuge following an assault against the army by ethnic armed groups, Thailand said Thursday, May 8, a few days after Junta extended a ceasefire after the earth.
Myanmar has been mired in a civil conflict from a military coup in 2021, the junta fighting against a coalition of ethnic armed organizations and forces of resistance to democracy.
The attack on Wednesday by the National Army of Liberation of Karen (KNLA) and its allied Karen National organization (KNDO) targeted a military base in the state of Kayin, about 2.5 km from the Thai border, according to the Thai army.
“The attack involved an encirclement at close range of the base and the use of armed drones to continue continuously explosives throughout the day,” a statement said.
On Thursday, 327 Myanmar nationals crossed Thailand and devoted themselves to two temporary sites, including a temple, the soldiers and the Thai police providing security and humanitarian aid, officials announced.
Thai forces have accelerated patrols along the border of the province of Tak to prevent what civil servants have described as a “violation of sovereignty of the foreign armed forces”.
The Military Government of Myanmar and Various Armed Groups opposing it announced a cease-fire after the March 28 Quake To help help and recovery efforts.
The truce has been broken several times by Air strikes by the junta and attacks by armed groups.
