Karmen Moore had always dreamed of joining the Radio City Rockettes. But while finishing her dance performance diploma at the Southern Methodist University in 2023, she mainly focused on hearing for contemporary and modern companies. A last -minute trip to New York won Moore at the call of the Rockettes. She ended up going to the Conservatoire de Rockettes and, after another hearing, specifically for conservatories, officially joined the emblematic line in November 2023. “Hearing was something I wanted to do to honor my childhood self,” said Moore.
Its daring and lyrical quality of movement is imbued with the passion and the precision necessary to execute the intense choreography of the Rockettes. Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Moore has formed with a number of studios, including the Bartlett dance and Dance Dynamics Memphis. But it was the encouragement of her teacher Danielle Pierce who propelled Moore on the professional track: “She pushed me to look for more – more knowledge, more technique, more progress, more of everything.”
A new vocabulary
“The rockettes integrate a lot of precision jazz in their choreography, and it is like learning an entirely different language. Because things are so precise, there are certain words and sentences to describe different positions and ways. I fully immerse myself in this language was the best way to learn, and once I understood, the movement came more naturally. »»
Beauty in rehearsal
“Even if we perform the same show every night, I really find myself in work – it is somehow meditative knowing that I start again.
Dance power
“I can't imagine life without dance. Giving this feeling to others is so important to me, because I want them to feel the same satisfaction and the same joy – and in this way, I think that dance is an altruistic act. You constantly give the public, and I hope they will give you back. ”
