Asad Asif Khan fighting Michael Conlan in Brighton

Michael Conlan says he liked to fight again after an absence of 15 months while he was beating Indian fighter Asad Asif Khan in Brighton on Friday evening.

The 33 -year -old featherweight of Belfast made his return after losing his two previous fights.

Conlan, under the supervision of the new coach Grant Smith, obtained a 78-74-point victory against Khan during the eight-round fight.

“It was comfortable, he didn't hurt me once. I was just having fun, getting things done and advancing,” said the Bronze Olympic medalist.

“Back-to-Dos loses and the fact that you are coming back and that you finally come back to the Win column is always important, it's always nice, so I'm happy.”

After the victory at Brighton Arena, it was confirmed that Conlan will then face Cristobal Lorente from Spain for the European featherweight title.

Conlan, who admitted to be a little rusty in her return fight, expects the fight to take place this summer.

“It's the right fight, the right direction to go and I'm happy with it.

“To be honest, it was difficult to come back to things (against Khan) and to fight the distance, the timing and all that. It is not completely there but it happens.”
