It is almost as if the Guthrie Theater was breathing again after having retained his breath because of the pandemic and budgetary problems.
For the first time in five years, the largest theater in Minnesota will produce a work in its Dowling studio, activating its third stage of the ninth floor which was dark for professional shows since the coronavirus stop.
In September, customers can participate in the world premiere of “The Ruins: A Play Through Music” by George Abud, a two years on young musicians reflecting on their lives while they are facing imminent mortality.
The reactivation of dowling, even if it is only for a play, is one of the titles that leaves the 2025-2026 range of the theater.
After a year of contraction due to budgetary misfortunes, Guthrie also increases its number of main shows by nine. The list includes the Pulitzer Pulitzer of Eboni Booth Pulitzer in 2024 “Primary Trust”, about a dismissed worker and a Tiki bar used out of his shell, and “Va from Away”, the musical concerning hospitality and resilience as a Canadian city rallied to accommodate American air passengers on September 11.
The next season also includes the new version of Amy Herzog by “A Doll's House” by Henrik Ibsen, “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare, the Christmas comedy “Private Lives” and the adaptation of Lauren Gunderson of “Louisa May Alcott's Little Women”.
“Each year, we are looking for a mixture of classic and contemporary pieces,” said artistic director Joseph Haj, adding that this year's range offers a diversified mix that will satisfy the many districts and stakeholders from Playhouse, even if he hopes to attract new fans.
The season starts with “Doll's House”, Ibsen's revolutionary work on women freeing themselves from patriarchal restrictions. The adaptation nominated to Tony de Herzog condenses history and gives the female lead more agency. Tracy Brigden, who organized “Dial M for murder” in Guthrie, directs (September 13-October 12).
