BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Union will publish plans on Tuesday to ban new Russian gas agreements by the end of the year and to eliminate existing contracts with Moscow by the end of 2027, three EU officials in Reuters told.
The European Commission will publish on Tuesday a “roadmap” in the way it plans to end imports of Russian fossil fuels by 2027. The roadmap will include a commitment to propose, in June, the prohibition of new Russian gas import agreements and cash contracts by the end of 2025, the officials said.
The roadmap will also include a commitment to make a legal proposal to prohibit Russian gas and imports of liquefied natural gas within the framework of existing contracts by the end of 2027, said that the officials have granted anonymity to discuss confidential plans, which could still change before their publication.
