Elon Musk's Brain Implant Company, Neurablesubmitted requests to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for owner exclusively the names TelepathyTelekinesis and others for future products.
Neuralink, which Musk co -founded in 2016, develops a technology known as the brain interface, a system that decodes brain activity to control an output device. Musk said that the first product of the company will be called telepathy and will allow people with paralysis to control a computer or a phone simply thinking. But the Neuralink brand application suggests that the company has ambitions of its technology allowing telepathic communication not only with electronic devices, but between human beings.
Neuralink's interface implies a brain implant which collects signals and neural software that translates these signals into cursor movements on a computer screen. Until now, three people have received the experimental implant of Neuralink as part of an early feasibility study. The first, Noland Arbaughunderwent brain surgery in January 2024 to obtain the device. In November, the company received authorization from Open a test site in Canada.
Society TelepathyPut on March 3, describes the product as “an implantable brain at the IT interface to facilitate communication and control of software and hardware”. The claim of “facilitating communication” could mean that telepathy is supposed to help people paralyzed to communicate by typing on an external device, but this could also mean allowing telepathic communication between individuals with neural implants.
“The question is, what kind of communication?” said the lawyer for the brand Josh Gerben, founder of Gerben IP. “Sometimes things are hidden in these applications.” However, it warns that the claims on brand requests can be speculative and too wide in relation to patent applications, which must be more detailed on the operation of an invention and what it will be used. The activation of telepathic communication would adapt, however, to Musk's wider vision for Neuralink.
Musk has long been interested in the concept of activation of telepathy with a brain interface. In a Longty illustrated explanatory of 2017 In which he described the idea behind his new Neuralink company, Musk pleaded for the communication of reflection between people. “If I had to give you a concept, you would essentially engage in a consensual telepathy. You would not need to verbalize unless you want to add a little flair to the conversation or something, but the conversation would be a conceptual interaction to a level difficult to design now, “Musk blogger Tim Urban at the time.
More recently, Musk discussed Neuralink's telepathic ambitions on the Podcast Lex Fridman In August 2024. “New ways of interacting with the computer could be unlocked,” said Fridman, referring to potential improvements in the speed and precision of the Neuralink device. “And with other humans,” replied Musk. “On condition that they have – they also want – a neural too.”
Musk has hypothesized that healthy people will possibly obtain brain implants, allowing humans to reach a “symbiosis” with artificial intelligence.
